Want More! October 24, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
What a great concept! Profit is a dangerously wounded man who is exactly what we all want to be. How's that for a conflict? Characters are rich, and some very bizarre, without any of them falling into the trap of being more or less than who they are for the convenience of the story. In order to pull this off, the casting had to be perfect, which it was. I've since seen the man who played Jim Profit in "Heroes" and, while he is a talent, the comparison shows just how great an actor can be with challenging material. In "Profit" you're left with just knowing that no one else could have played the part.
I imaagine it didn't last because that first 2-hour pilot was the grabber, and it would have been hard to come in late. It was also one of those shows you actually had to pay attention to, which I'm sure reduced the viewers even further. I never even heard of this show before someone recommended it to me, so it must have been one of those "brilliant but cancelled" series that never got a chance to find an audience. I recommend an audience find it, keeping in mind that it ends too soon and you'll be wanting more when it's over.
Dreary story about unsympathiic charaters. July 22, 2008 1 out of 6 found this review helpful
Bleah! The pilot was enough, great actors terrible story. There were no real likeable charaters, just sad people doing bad things to each other, not for me.
Waiting for the other shoe to drop July 17, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Probably the most outstanding service Amazon.com brings to it's customers are the product reviews. I purchased this incredible set last week having never heard of this series and solely upon the written reviews. Wow. How could Fox television have dropped such an amazing show so quickly? For years CBS gave us Dallas with the infamous JR Ewing. Well, I'm here to say that JR could learn a few things from Mr. Profit. Had Fox shown a bit more patience, they would have enjoyed a smash hit that would have rivaled the venerable Dallas. If you, as myself, had never heard of Profit - please buy the set. As these intricate stories unfold, you will watch transfixed as nothing seems to phase Mr. Profit - he is a cold calculating machine. For you and me, waiting for the other shoe to drop is a fact of life - for Mr. Profit, another opportunity. Your only regret is you cannot get more of this truly excellent drama. I guess a small Profit is better than no Profit at all.
Jim Profits at everyone elses's expense - you local sociopath at work June 10, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Jim Profit is an ambitious executive - he's not likeable or really even admirable, but he's fascinating to watch, he's also incredibly damaged from his childhood and a total sociopath. The producers of this show are quick to tell you they were 5 years before their time and having watched the episodes produced, it's easy to agree with them.
The lead role of Profit is played by Adrian Pasadar best known these days for his role in Heroes as Nathan Petrelli - but physically he's changed remarkably little since he was in this 1995 series. It plays like a corporate version of the series DEXTER without the deliberate weekly bodycount, but like that show you keep coming back to it because it's a bit like watching a disaster unfold and you can't take your eyes away from it.
Profit is a well produced series that really deserved a longer run than it got, and one that even now is very watchable for the little that was made. Its easy to see why it's a cult favourite.

Cheesy, sleazy, and outrageous May 11, 2008 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
Such outrageous dialogue and situations, such cheesiness as having the main character look at the camera sometimes when he is doing his oh-so-clever voiceover, such sleazy fare as his stepmonster threatening him while simultaneously wanting to be with him in a way that a stepmother never should. It could only be Profit, the short-lived series featuring Adrian Pasdar in the title role of Jim Profit, who grew up living in a big cardboard box with scraps of food and nothing but the TV for companionship.
Somehow, he survives to become a well-groomed, computer-savvy, corporate-ladder-climbing fellow who will stop at nothing to gain ground in the Gracen and Gracen company, playing the CEOs against each other, forcing his secretary to help with the dirty work, and outsmarting two agents who are trying to finger him as the criminal mastermind.
Add to this the goofy theme song, with is mostly synth mixed with some guy howling "YeeoWWWW!", and you will be in goofball TV heaven.
