It sure could have been better January 6, 2009 Having had the 3 nights from Gizah in my tape collection for years, I was looking forward to getting this combo disc set. I think that the DVD is fabulous but with 2 other nights of music at the pyramids, why did the audio disc have the same material as the dvd, the second set from 9/16, for the most part.
Killer January 2, 2009 Great Freakin Show here I'll tell you what 78 was on fire and this will show you why
Historical, yes, but not a particularly great run. December 30, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
There are a few lil nuggets on here-a new dvd release is nice-but as a whole i would spend my money on other releases or wait til its significantly cheaper...Winterland 78...Truckin' up to Buffalo...Dick's Picks 15, 9, 8 are favorites...it just seems as if the band was about to hit that point we all know and love but never quite did so...The packaging is really cool and it certainly has its historical value but spend your money on something hotter (musically)
Align Yourself With the Ancients December 23, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Who else but the Dead would play under the shadow of the Great Pyramid? While this was not their best run, this compilation takes the best of the three nights and places it into one three disc set. The DVD is about two hours long, including a documentary, and the audio on the DVD is 48k DVD audio, so it sounds sublime.
If you go over to dead.net and call the toll free number, and if you ask please, you can get this set for less then the avertised price here and get an additional bonus CD. 4 Discs for less than $25.00. Space is truly in your reach.
HAMZA...!!!! December 20, 2008 the playing is sparse, incredibly charged and changed by the locale
the dvd is exquisite, the only regrets, stella blue fading out, and an unnecessary superimposed sphinx image in a few places - but what the heck!
the crowd shots are brilliant, really taking you there
the JOY is seeing, hearing and experiencing all this again - i had no idea there was a multi camera shoot happening...
and yes, i was there...
