 Amazing cinematography October 24, 2008
I grabbed this at Best Buy when getting my blu-ray player because if was so affordable. I was blown away at how cool it looks on my HDTV. There is some amazing footage.
California in your living room October 18, 2008
THis is Great. If you ever wanted to tour the Great state of California or take a tour, you will love this one. You can watch it many times in High Definition Quality. If you want to hear Music instead, that will work well with company. I have the Whole set and love it.

Regardless of the price paid, I expect decent quality in a DVD advertised as Blu-ray. Not only was the disc not in 1080p, but the quality of the picture was very poor in several spots, with artifacts and drop-outs. The film is at least a decade old - they show the Raiders football team in the L.A. Coliseum - they moved back to Oakland in 1995! Its obvious the production was not filmed with high-definition cameras, but was remastered to a higher pixel count without any increase in quality.
I wasn't that thrilled with the scenic production either. Far too much time spent circling skyscrapers and not enough over other points of interest. The tour of San Diego was especially cheap and covered only the harbor area.

I saw the 1 star review on this title & had to respond. The fact of the matter is this title was shot in 1994. I'm not so sure at the time that (they thought) shooting this footage in HD @ 1080i VS. 1080p was going to be a big issue. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think 1080p plasma/LCD TV's were in existance at the time, let alone Blu Ray technology. Sure, to techno audio/visual philes this might be an issue, but I think for most of us (myslef included) it isn't. I have a 55" plasma & I found this to be a very visually stunning piece of work. Not to mention, I don't think there is a Blu Ray disc in existance at this price in the entire country. This program was originally shot and produced for PBS. It has been aired & viewed by millions & they have sold 100,000+ copies of this title alone on VHS/DVD on pledge drives & in their stores at $29.99. I don't think that the fact that this title could only be remasterd & replicated @ 1080i VS. 1080p would have been reason enough to not bring this title to Blu Ray. I for one, am glad they did. Bottom line is, it is a great product, at a great price - & I doubt the majority of folks out there will have an issue with it being 1080i VS. 1080p. Unless of course you have more in common with the individual that give this title 1 star, then maybe you'll want to spend your money on a differnt Blu Ray title shot in 1080p for $15...if you can find one.

I managed to get my copy for $9.99. It was filmed in 1994. Apparently the recording is in 1080i although that means nothing to me because my flatscreen is 720p. It's encoded in MPEG-2 but they maxed out the bitrate and it looks pretty darn good. For the price, it's a really neat demo with the only con being the elevator music.
