Amazon.com Roger Ebert proclaimed it "one of the most extraordinary films I've ever seen," and there's no denying the avalanche of wild images in The Fall: grand castles, desert vistas, elephants swimming in the open ocean. Commercial and music-video director Tarsem has piled these visions into an elaborate remake of an obscure Bulgarian film, Yo Ho Ho, which is anchored in (but by no means limited to) a quiet hospital during the silent-movie era. A stunt man (Lee Pace) is laid up with leg injuries, and an eye-popping black-and-white prologue (utterly mystifying while we're watching it) tells us how he got here. Depressed over his disability and a recent lost love, he plans suicide, but is temporarily derailed by the inquisitive friendship of a little girl (Catinca Untaru), to whom he tells wild stories of adventurers and princesses. We see these stories, which is where the dizzying visuals come in. This movie probably won't inspire many lukewarm responses: either you'll fall madly for this paean to storytelling magic, or you'll be suspicious about the parade of pretty pictures, which tend to have a magazine-layout sheen. The movie certainly has more soul than Tarsem's yucky previous feature, The Cell, and the scenes between Pace and Untaru (who scores an 11 on the cuteness scale) are genuinely charming. The director actually put a considerable amount of his own money into the production (which shot in over 20 countries), and whether you buy his vision or not, he put his money on the screen. --Robert Horton

Amazing!! November 19, 2008 I absolutely love this movie! The story is really unique and the visuals are stunning.
"The Fall" is an experience worth having. November 17, 2008 Blu-ray is a great thing; the image is crisp and beautiful. However, up to this point, I had only seen one thing that I would say had to be seen in blu-ray. That was Planet Earth. The Fall is now the second. This is one of the single most beautiful films you will ever see.
Remove all expectations...may take multiple viewings November 17, 2008 When I initially watched the film, I didn't like it very well. I watched it a second time (approximately 1 week from the first viewing) and it was better for me.
I was anticipating a 'Disney-type' film with a dramatic twist, but find it better if I remove all expectations and simply watch it for what it is...
However, I wouldn't consider it a 'block-buster,' merely a film that is good from a 'b-list' perspective.
Cheers! ;)
Awesome! November 16, 2008 This movie is incredible! The story is so touching and the actors all did an amazing job. It was filmed in I believe it is 18 different locations which really makes the cinematography astounding; there are so many vivid colors and amazing architecture. Plus, the soundtrack is beautiful. You will not be disappointed in this movie.
The BEST Movie Ever November 16, 2008 This is NOT your everyday movie. It is just so visually appealing. Words escape me. See it for yourself and you'll know EXACTLY what I mean. Director Tarsem Singh composes every shot like the artistic genius he must be. I LOVE this film
