Homicidal maniacs have a field day in Rob Zombie's The Devil's Rejects, an ultraviolent spin-off from Zombie's critically reviled 2003 debut, House of 1,000 Corpses. As Zombie continues to cultivate his name-brand variety of extreme horror and splatter-film homage, he definitely takes his place among connoisseurs of carnage. In the case of The Devil's Rejects, several characters from 1,000 Corpses return for another marathon of mayhem, as the murderous Firefly family (led by Sid Haig as the maniacal "Captain Spaulding") turn their bloody wrath against hostages in a fleabag motel, while the local sheriff (William Forsythe) plots revenge against them for the killing of his brother. Before their inevitable showdown, Zombie has plenty of fun--perhaps a little too much fun--indulging his penchant for sick, sadistic humor and gruesome atrocity. Clearly, Zombie fancies himself as horror's answer to Quentin Tarantino, but he lacks Tarantino's gift for riveting plots and escalating tension. Instead, The Devil's Rejects is just raw, rampant excess from start to finish, paying visual tribute to gruesome classics from the '70s and guaranteed to earn the cult status that Zombie is all too obviously aiming for. He's an unabashed horror buff who's carving a niche in the genre he loves, shamelessly satisfying a small but loyal audience of sicko-phants. --Jeff Shannon

4 out of 5 stars Great Gorry Cheese   October 6, 2008

As much as people hate in this movie, any true horror fan cannot dispute it's exploitive charm. Constant female nudity, endless gore, and a great soundtrack make this movie a must have for campy horror fans.

4 out of 5 stars Three Of A Kind...   October 2, 2008

I wasn't a big fan of HOUSE OF 1,000 CORPSES, so I figured that THE DEVIL'S REJECTS would be another 3-star movie at best. Well, I was wrong. TDR is a nice improvement over Rob Zombie's first effort. The Firefly family returns, just as vile, reprehensible, and disgusting as ever. Otis (Bill Moseley), Baby (Sheri Moon Zombie), and Captain Spaulding (Sid "Spider Baby" Haig) hit the road after the police raid the family compound. The rest is a murder spree, w/ a few unfortunate victims being humiliated, mutilated, and killed. What makes this one interesting is the character of Sheriff Wydell, who is out to avenge the death of his brother at the hands of this sadistic family of loons. Is this movie uplifting? No. Is it deep or socially redeeming? Nah, but it is what it's supposed to be, an exploitation / shock movie w/ a vicious sense of humor! This time, instead of TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE, Zombie draws from movies like LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT, IN COLD BLOOD, THE SADIST, etc. in order to bash our heads in w/ the wickedness of this trio! Should mentally unstable people watch such a film as this? I don't know, but for the rest of us, it's a harmless enough diversion. Like some have mentioned already, the most frightening thing about the Fireflys is that they could really be out there somewhere! The news is full of humanoids that do not care one bit about anyone / anything but their own survival. Any one of us could wind up in the wrong place at the wrong time. THAT is why movies like this work! There's always the possibility of meeting up w/ a monster and not being able to yell, "Cut!"...

3 out of 5 stars Rob Zombie's Epic White-Trash Film!!!   September 9, 2008

The Devil's Rejects is a pretty good sequel to House of 1,000 Corpses. The only problem I have with this movie is the the word; Fu#k is said too many times. Capt. Spaulding, Otis, and Baby are on the run from Sheriff Rydell. When they get to a motel, they terrorize a group of friends and kill them. Then, they go to Capt. Spaulding's brother's whorehouse and hide there. The brother betrays them and lets Rydell torture them. When they get away AGAIN, they finally come to an end in a police shoot-out on the main road. If you like Rob Zombie's work, you might like THE DEVIL'S REJECTS!!!

3 out of 5 stars Good, but not great.   September 3, 2008

This was a good but not great movie. It isn't near as good as Rob Zombies remake of John Carpenters Halloween. It would be nice if Zombie could also do a remake of all the other Halloweens john screwed up (AKA everyone except for the forth, maybe fith, H2O and maybe the second to last one).

Now on to the review. The Devils Rejects is a sequal to the film "House of A Thousand Corpses". In this film the bad guys from "House of A Thousand Corpses" are on the run from the law in the desert. This movie was allot simular to "House of A Thousand Corpses". Good costumes, and very beleivable, but it could have used a few more killing scenes. All though it did have a bit more killing in it then "House Of A Thousand Corpses". This movie gets 1/2 a star more then "House of A Thousand Corpses", because it had a bit more killing in it and an extreemly good sick and twisted ending.

3 out of 5 stars I watched in horror...which i guess is good cuz thats the genre...   June 23, 2008

Well...cinematically, this was a pretty interesting movie. The storyline was so sick and twisted that only Rob Zombie could come up with it. I seriously came really close to vomiting. The only time a movie has brought me to yak was Snakes on a Plane--and that was because i had tonsil surgery and was on all these meds. I definately watched in horror, and I threw this one into the "sell" pile because I don't think I can sit through it again.

I thought House of 1000 corpses was one of the worst movies I have ever seen and had I not already purchased this one before seeing that one I would not have ever watched this, however this one is much "Better" than its prequel.
