One of the best AR-style training videos ever. January 4, 2009 How many of you have ever purchased a training video of some sort only to watch it and think that the guy on screen must have hired his eight year-old to film it with his old super 8mm camera. Video is terrible, sound is terrible and any information you might have picked up from it is obscured by the terrible production value.
This is not that video. Not by a long shot.
The production value and editing of these DVDs make them watch more like a movie than an instructional video. This level of production makes the incredibly useful and well-demonstrated information on the DVDs very accessible and easy to pick up quickly. Add to that the very dynamic personalities of the instructors and you have a set of DVDs that can be watched over and over without the material becoming old.
If you are looking for a fantastic presentation of essential carbine skills and drills in a format that's just as enjoyable to watch as it is instructional, then this is the one for you! Every carbine owner should own this set.
Best "bang" for your buck December 10, 2008 This is the best instructional video I've ever watched. Pure and simple.
The visuals and sound are great, the instructions clear, the rifles make you crave a tax stamp.
Seriously, you get 3 DVD's for what you'd normally pay for one DVD.
Do not pass this up if you're serious about being a shooter.
Great Product at a Great Price December 8, 2008 This is some of the best videography and editing I have seen in a shooting video. It not only looks good but the content is great too. The instructors explain things clearly, and you see the techniques performed by the instructors and the students as they go through the class. A lot of material is covered starting with a heavy emphasis on the fundamentals (proper stance, putting rounds where you need them to go, efficient gun handling, reloads, clearing malfuntions, etc.) and building on those basic skills on up to multiple targets and multiple students shooting, moving, and communicating. There is plenty to learn here whether the viewer is new to AR's or has been shooting for Uncle Sam for years.
Worth triple the list price! December 7, 2008 I own several ARs and have been shooting them for years. I thought I was relatively proficient wuth my preferred weapon system but after watching these DVDs I realized just how little I knew. By taking a good hard look at the basics and talking about how and why we do things the way we do you start to understand how even simple things become incredibly important in a gun fight.
The instructors have a no nonsense yet open-minded approach that is absent to in too many instructors. They instruct by showing what works for them and saying you might want to change things a bit for yourself depending on what works for you. I loved to hear that. Also, the instructors never tried pushing any equipment or doctrines like a lot of other guys try to do. No caliber debates or manufacturer quarrels. Just a bunch of useful info that can absolutely make you a better shooter and potentially save your life some day.
I would warn anyone interested in buying this DVD that it is highly tailored towards the AR family of rifles. Much of what is taught is based on volume of fire and efficiency/economy of movement. Much of this info might not apply to users running a larger caliber MBR like a FAL/G3/M14/etc. Still even if you do use a MBR or even an AK there is a ton of useful drills and skills that you will still benefit from that work with any weapon system.
Now I sure wish Magpul would make this a series and release instructional DVDs on shotguns, defensive handguns, AKs, and even long range rifle shooting. They are too good to stop here.
In sum, no matter if you are an advanced shooter or a novice this DVD is THE training aide to buy. Even if it was $100 or more it would still be worth it.
A wealth of knowledge. December 6, 2008 After 15 years of Action Rifle Matches, I thought I knew it all when it comes to deploying the AR15 weapon system. After watching the videos, it's apparent I knew very little after all.
Apply this knowledge to your training regiment and the cumulative effect will result in you being a more proficient competitor.
An absolute life saver.
