| Editorial Reviews:
Amazon.com The connection and interdependence between yoga and belly dance are explored in Tribal Fusion, a reasonably comprehensive and intense program drawing on both disciplines and demonstrated by the remarkable Rachel Brice. Practices of three different lengths (15, 30, and about 40 minutes) are offered; elements in the shorter practices are repeated and expanded on in the longer ones. The yoga portions include some basic sun salutations, lunges, backbends (specifically the locust pose), and such; the more extensive belly dancing exercises and undulations focus on the hips, the chest, and shoulders. Brice's instructions are efficient, if sometimes a bit on the brisk side (it's one thing to exhort students to practice ujjayi pranayama, the deep, audible nostril breathing style used in yoga; it's quite another to do so without even saying what it is, let alone showing how it's done). Whether or not any of the female users for which this DVD is intended will be able to replicate Brice's belly dancing moves is open to question, as her technique and amazingly toned body make things look easy when, in fact, mere mortals may find them baffling, to say the least. Moreover, although Carolena Nericcio, one of Brice's mentors and the "hostess" of this program, stresses that "the main attraction (of belly dancing) is delight," Brice doesn't seem to be having much fun, never so much as cracking a smile. Little matter. When you're this good, there's no need to kid around. --Sam Graham
Description Bellydance Superstar Rachel Brice teaches basic tools that can be incorporated into daily practice that will bring flexibility, strength and, if practiced regularly, effortlessness into whatever Belly Dance style you choose. Instruction includes a short Yoga practice to warm up and strengthen the body as well as a final chapter on Yoga for flexibility."

Exactly what I was looking for January 4, 2009 I picked this DVD up and another one with the intention of incorporating them into my yoga work out. A friend of mine had been mentioning Rachel Brice on her blog, so I decided to check her out. This DVD instantly made me regret buying the other one, because it simply wasn't necessary. Her instructions are very easy to follow, and what you're supposed to be doing is demonstrated in simple steps. That she adds a warm up and cool down in each session is an added bonus. I plan on returning the other DVD to get another one of Rachel's instead.
Something different besides just Yoga December 5, 2008 I purchased this DVD a coupld of years ago. At that time, I danced for about 5 years. At first, I found the video odd, since I do not take Tribal Bellydance classes. Luckily, I am able to skip through what is not necessary for me, the menu is easy to use. Plus, it keeps me from getting bored of the same ol' yoga routine. It does help with flexibility and bellyrolls, which are hard to master in the first place.
Good, but... November 4, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I love Rachel Brice, so it's hard to only give her 4 stars. These are drills, as stated, and they are good drills. Practicing this DVD regularly has helped my control as a dancer. I have two complaints.
1.) There is only 40 minutes of instruction, not 78. Both the 15 minute practice and the 30 minute practice contain the same moves as the 40 minute practice. They are recorded end to end, 15 min., 30 min, 40 min, and her performance at the end, to equal 78 minutes.
2.) This doesn't contain much of Rachel Brice's signature dance style. This is a foundation DVD. It will help you build up to the amazing control that Rachel Brice has. This will not teach you her moves, but this will help you do basic moves with wonderful precision, power, and poise, like Rachel Brice.
Honestly, if I didn't feel that the repetition of the moves in the 3 practices was so cheap, I would give her 5 stars. This is a really good DVD for honing your skills as a dancer.
Great for Beginners/Intermediates September 11, 2008 I love Rachel Brice - she is one of my favorite bellydancers. This video is great, but wasn't really ideal for me personally. I'm not a huge Yoga fan (way too impatient!) and a lot of time is devoted to that. The drills and isolations are awesome and I frequently use this DVD as a reference because Rachel does a great job explaining everything. I have been bellydancing for about 2 1/2 years and I teach a beginner bellydance class, so for me this DVD was too basic. If you are a beginner/intermediate this would be a great addition to your collection! If you are advanced, I would say rent it first before you buy it.
alright, but... August 12, 2008 Ok, I have mixed emotions about this dvd. I love that you can choose which work out to do depending on how much time you have or what you're up to doing, I have yet to come across another dvd that does that. However, there is a LOT of yoga and I get bored of it easily, but it's good for me so I shouldn't complain. The lack of moves covered is also an issue and the thing that bugs the heck out of me is that everything she does seems to be arrhythmic like they added in the drum beat with the voice over. Overall it's an alright dvd but I believe there are much better out there that I would rather spend my money on.
