The Perfect Pilates Workout December 21, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I highly recommend this DVD. I have been a fan of Brooke Siler's since I purchased her first book, The Pilates Body, back in 1999, and went on to purchase her CD kit (The Pilates Body Kit), and second book, The Ultimate Pilates Body Challenge. I recently purchased a copy of this DVD and highly recommend it to beginner-intermediate students. It features a well-rounded classical mat workout (and second "cardio" workout that is more about putting Pilates principles into practice while performing standing conditioning exercises). The workouts are the perfect pace (not too fast to perform the exercises with control and attention to precision; but not too slow and overly instructional) And Brooke provides great instruction utilizing both clear anatomical cues and imagery. I will recommend this to all of my students looking for an at-home Pilates workout.
Great cardio/Pilates dvd December 20, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Since Siler helped to bring Pilates into the mainstream almost a decade ago, people have been waiting to see her "in action" on a DVD. This is a great release and proves yet again that Pilates can be both a challenging strength and flexibility workout while still being vigorous to raise your heart rate.
Be warned: this workout doesn't move nearly as quickly Hilary Burnett's Advanced Pilates or "reimagines" Pilates the way a lot of Ellen Barrett's releases do to achieve an increased heart rate. Instead, Siler gets the job done by moving through a series of precise, well-cued movements at a pace that allows you to both pay attention to your form and get a cardio effect. While most of the movements focus on the legs, the upper body is also working to maintain stability.
The matwork that follows is a solid intermediate workout, including variations and modifications for such classics as the Teaser, Side Kicks and Pushups as well as more basic exercises such as the Roll Down. As in other form-focused releases, she proves again that "basic" doesn't mean "beginners only". If you do even the simplest moves properly, your muscles should burn.
As vigorous as the workout is, it could be done every day- or less. At the end, you should feel "worked out" and relaxed.
Good buy December 3, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a good all-around choice. Brooke is very easy to follow and she regularly reminds you about your posture, engaging specific muscles, breathing, etc. This can be a good work out if you fully engage the required muscles and breathe correctly. Not too difficult at all.
Pilates Instructor Who Loves this DVD November 25, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I love this DVD! The exercises are perfect for the beginner to intermediate student. The verbal instructions are very well done letting you know what you should be feeling and where. The exercises are clearly shown and easy to follow. I attended a Pilates Body workshop with Brooke Siler in March 2008 and she is just as wonderful to workout with on this DVD as she was in person. And the background scenary is beautiful. Buy it! You'll love it.
Challenging and not too long November 23, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
My Pilates teacher suggested Brooke Siler's books as a good way to practice at home. I was a little put off by the idea of "cardio" Pilates, but once I did that section I enjoyed it and felt like it was aerobic without sacrificing the idea of concentration and core. Doing both programs (the cardio section and the mat section) gives a good total body workout without wiping you out for the whole day.
